Kechi approves petitions for Rock Pointe duplexes
By Taylor Messick
Last Updated: May 17, 2018

On May 10, the Kechi City Council passed improvements for what will become the second phase of Rock Pointe. Petitions for paving, sewer, water and gas were unanimously approved.

Craig Harms of CCJ LLC is the developer on the project. Harms said the plan is to initially develop 19 lots on the front half of the property off of Rock Road; he will develop 19 more in another phase on the back half of the land near KDOT's property when the first phase is complete.

The duplexes will be 1,250 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, attached garages and yards. They are expected to be priced around $1,095 to $1,195 per month. Harms said he is hoping the streets will be in by October so he can move forward quickly with the project.

“Higher end apartments are renting from $750 all the way up to $1,300," said Harms. “We're at $1,195 on the high end for three bedrooms, two baths, two-car garages and fenced-in yards. I think we're taking people from apartment complexes who have animals or kids; maybe they want space or somewhere to go out and play in the yard. Maybe they don't want to go up and down three flights of stairs. I know it seems like these things are popping up all over the place but our occupancy is at 100 percent."

The council voted to hire PEC for phase two engineering at a cost of $106,100.
