The View from Sunflower Gardens

There are many people to honor

Soon we will note the Groundhog Day and count down on winter days. Also Happy Valentine's Day and Presidents Day to all.

We hope all those under the weather will get well soon.

Remember: "The average home is modern, with a switch for every chore, except one for some little ones — and no one needs it more." Lorene Workman.

"Sometimes the groundhog, Phil, is befuddled. Rain and snow are mixed and muddled. Huddle by the fireplace, rain and frozen ponds are puddle, then the ice boats are scuttled." Anonymous.

Verse of the week: "He is expecting you to do much. Minister to others. Be God's servant." Matthew 25:34.

"As we say farewell to January — expect a miracle — make miracles happen." Anonymous.

February is a month to be patriotic: "This land is your land, this land is my land. From California to the New York Island. From the redwood forest, to the Gulf stream water. This land was made for you and me." Woody Guthire.

Among the dear hearts and gentle people who live here, some are moving away. Farewell.

The residents here like the Monday coffee chats, Bible study, van trips, potluck dinners, game nights, exercise days and walks down our halls. We like the pretty framed jigsaw puzzles of scenery in the U.S.A.

Some of us like the new shows and series on TV in a new season. We see politics in motions, the latest news — good or bad — comedy and music. All good cable.

Thanks to the postman and our repairman and folks who are good neighbors to us here. Thank you to those who help at our potluck dinners and coffee chats, and in the library.

Happy birthday to those folks born in February.

Some folks get seed catalogs here. Others just catalogs.

"I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy / A Yankee Doodle, do or die. … Yankee Doodle came to London / Just to ride the ponies / I am the Yankee Doodle Boy." George M. Cohan.

On Jan. 29 we celebrate Kansas Day.

"Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam, where the deer and antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day. Home, home on the range." Dr. Brewster Higley.

It's out state song!

We thank you to Nancy and Kay for piano concerts and sing-alongs here, and Sunday night hymn sings with the Mennonites.

We noted Martin Luther King Day, a national holiday for a great man. We have many great men whom we honor for making our country better.

However, let us honor our veterans, our preachers, teachers, farmers, ranchers, merchants, grocers, airplane builders, school coaches, newspapermen, road and highway repairmen, plumbers, electricians, etc. All who make our way easier. Also our entertainers.

Continue to pray for our country — all its troops and their families — all our leaders. It's a good time to thank all those who keep tree nurseries and flower shops and garden suppliers — a variety of hardware store folk.

"Be kind, anyway." Mother Teresa.
