Miss Dianna Carol Broadhurst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Broadhurst of rural Valley Center and Ronald Robert Ross of Wichita, plan a summer marriage.

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Morgan of San Diego, Calf., left Jan. 6 for their home after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morgan, and his sister, Corliss. Billy is a third-class petty officer and a navigator on the Phantom 4H jet fighter in the Navy.

Due to inclement weather and flu, the open house on Dec. 28 in honor of Stella Collier on her 89th birthday was canceled.

Mr. and Mrs. Karl F. Wiechmann announce the engagement of their daughter, Aleta Lee, to Mr. James Stuart Vogt, Valley Center. Miss Wiechmann graduated from Valley Center High School in 1965 and attended Wichita State University. She is a past state officer of the Order of the Rainbow Girls and an officer in the Valley Center Chapter No. 237, Order of the Eastern Star. Miss Wichmann is employed as a secretary in the dean's office, Wichita State University. Mr. Vogt is also a 1965 graduate of Valley Center High School. He is a senior industrial education major at Wichita State University. He is also president of the Industrial Education Club at WSU. He is engaged in farming. A summer wedding is being planned.


40 years ago

Carol and Marcia Robb, both of Boston, spent the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robb of Valley Center. Carol is teaching at Suffolk University at Boston. Marcia works in a hospital in suburban Boston as a specialist in cytotechnologist. While here, the family visited relatives in Dodge City.

Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Mierau were honored with a 25th wedding anniversary open house by their children, Connie and Bill.


35 years ago

Bruce Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Williams, and Sandy Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair (Corky) Evans, were honored after their first semester at Kansas State University. Both are freshmen and 1978 graduates of Valley Center High School. Also honored was Christian Whittle of Sedgwick.

Susanne Daniels, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Daniels, compiled a straight-A average for the fall semester at Kansas Newman College in Wichita.


30 years ago

Diana Nissen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Nissen, received a master's of science degree in interior design in December from Kansas State University. She also was selected for membership in the Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Nu honor societies.

Russell and Mary Lewis of Chitita Park, Colo., spent the weekend with his mother, Grace, and Marilyn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dinsmore of Wichita. They were guests of Grace's sister and family, Bonnie Palmer of Newton, for Grace's birthday. Other guests were Grace's sister, Alice Mayall of Valley Center and Mary Palmer of Newton.

Sandra Kennedy Miler, daughter of Bob and Betty Kennedy, graduated from Wichita State University in December with a degree in elementary education. She also was named to the dean's honor roll for the fall semester. Miller is substitute teaching in Augusta, where her husband, Mark, teaches and coaches at the high school.

Army National Guard Pvt. 1st Class Terry Alderson, son of Susie Alderson of Valley Center and Larry Alderson of Wichita, has completed basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala. He is a 1985 graduate of Valley Center High School.

Bernice Lehman will be honored at an 88th birthday open house Jan. 29 in the fireside room at First United Methodist Church, Valley Center.

Jill Ramsey of Wichita and April Michaelis of Valley Center were awarded highest honors for the fall semester at Tabor College, Hillsboro. They are juniors. Senior Paula Alford of Valley Center earned high honors.


15 years ago

Todd Penner of Valley Center received his multi-engine flight certificate at Kansas State University at Salina. He is a senior in aeronautical technology. With a multi-engine rating, a pilot is licensed to fly an airplane with two or more engines. Students complete an additional 15 hours of flight instruction in a twin-engine airplane to earn the multi-engine airplane rating.

Megan Koppenhaver and Tim Tallent of Valley Center will play Polly and Tony in "The Boy Friend," opening Friday at Friends University, Wichita. The musical comedy by Sandy Wilson is presented by Friends University Fine Arts Division at the Alexander Auditorium on the campus 2100 University.

Melissa Kaye Cheney and Daniel Alan Wilson were married Dec. 15, 2003. The bride is the daughter of Tom and Anne Cheney and Patty Cheney, all of Valley Center. She is a 2001 graduate of Valley Center High School and a spring graduation candidate at Butler County Community College. The groom is the son of Wesley and Shirley Wilson of Wichita. He is a 2000 graduate of VCHS and a 2002 graduate of Butler County Community College. The couple planned an outdoor wedding in Jamaica. Friends and family hosted a reception Dec. 20 at Ascension Lutheran Church, Wichita. The couple is at home in Valley Center.

Natasha Williams and Chris Kirk, both of Fredericksburg, Va., announce their engagement and approaching marriage. The bride-elect is the daughter of Tyra and Bill Williams of Wichita. She is an administrative assistant at Salem Fields Community Church. The prospective groom is the son of Linda and Vernon Kirk of Wichita. He is pastor of student ministries at Salem Fields. The couple plans a Feb. 14 wedding at Woodland Lakes Community Church, Wichita, and a honeymoon trip to Shenandoah Valley, Va. The couple will be at home in Fredericksburg.

Sarah Hingst and Nathaniel Webb have announced their engagement. She is daughter of John and Linda Hingst of Sedgwick. He is the son of Steven and Jill Webb of Jackson, Tenn. The bride-elect and prospective groom are both of Fort Worth, Texas. Sarah graduated from Newton Christian High School and attended Butler Community College. She is employed by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and plans to get a degree in sign language interpreting. Nathaniel is a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy and Union University in Jackson, where he received a bachelor's degree in music education. He is employed by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in media services. The wedding will be June 6 at Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Center. The couple will reside in Fort Worth.

Bradley W. Harris of Valley Center was named to the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall 2008 semester at Fort Hays State University. To be eligible, a student must have been enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester
