Internet scheme scams local family
By The News staff
Last Updated: August 23, 2013

Valley Center police said a local family was scammed out of more than $1,500 through an Internet car sales scheme.

Police said the victims came to the station Aug. 14 and reported they believed they were purchasing a 2000 Toyota Camry from a woman in Indiana, but were directed to send $1,500 to a man in Colorado. The car was never received. Loss totaled $1,588.

In a separate Internet-commerce incident on Aug. 14, a Rose Hill woman called police and wanted an officer to respond to the 700 block of South Meridian in Valley Center to make juveniles pay for a bike they said they would buy from the woman's son off Craigslist. The woman also wanted the juveniles to pay her gas money since she drove from Rose Hill to Valley Center to sell the bike.

An officer told the woman that he could not make the juveniles pay for the bike.
