Former home of BTK victim up for auction
By Matt Heilman
Last Updated: August 23, 2013

A Park City home where BTK serial killer Dennis Rader murdered his eighth victim will be up for auction on Aug. 27.

On April 27, 1985, Rader snuck into the 960-square-foot, ranch-style home on Independence Street and murdered his neighbor, 53-year-old Marine Hedge.

It was the only murder Rader committed in Park City, where the serial killer lived for more than 30 years and served as the compliance officer from 1991 until his arrest in 2005.

Park City Administrator Jack Whitson said he thought Hedge's former home would likely sell for about $30,000, about half of its county appraised value.

Rader's home was sold at auction after his arrest in 2005. After the title didn't go through with the buyer, the city took ownership of the house and had it demolished.
