Hornets celebrate homecoming

Valley Center High School will celebrate homecoming with a coronation and dance Feb. 15.

Theme of homecoming is "Blast into the Past."

Homecoming king and queen will be crowned between halftime of the boys' basketball game against Goddard Eisenhower.

Queen candidates are Sierra Archer, Amanda Lee and Holle McQuitty.

King candidates are Chad Blair, Max Thompson and Braden Tormey.

Junior escorts are Camdon Blunck, 6-year-old son of Tony Blunck, and Taryn Barry, 4-year-old daughter of Ron and Amy Barry.

The Sadie Hawkins homecoming dance will be in the high school commons area after the games.

Homecoming spirit week was celebrated this week.

Feb. 11 was a 1990s theme, Feb. 12 was 1980s, Feb. 13 was 1970s, Feb. 14 was 1960s and Feb. 15 will be class colors — gold for freshmen, white for sophomores, purple for junior and black for seniors.

Sierra
Archer

Parents: Scott and Dawn Archer.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Fort Hays State University and major in forensic nursing.
Church: Central Christian.
School activities: Rally Crowd, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, varsity cheerleading co-captain, forensics, soccer.
Favorite memory or blooper: "Going to London over winter break to perform in the New Year's Day parade."

Amanda Lee

Parents: Bradley and Tera Stanhope and Mark Lee.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Butler Community College and then Emporia State University for a nursing degree, specializing in burns.
Church: Gracepoint.
School activities: Distributive Education Clubs of America, Rally Crowd, prom committee, cheer, choir.
Favorite memory or blooper: "Wrestling Imalea Swank at the Rose Hill Tournament and winning the championship belt."

Holle McQuitty

Parents: Susan Hadley and Chris McQuitty.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Wichita State University for dentistry.
Church: New Spring Church.
School activities: Rally Crowd, prom committee, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Letterwomen's Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, soccer, choir.
Favorite memory or blooper: "Going to state for soccer my sophomore year."

Chad Blair

Parents: Brian Blair and Shelly Blair.
Post-graduation plans: Undecided about which school to attend; wants to major in chemistry.
Church: First United Methodist Church.
School activities: Football, wrestling, baseball, cadet at Valley Center Police Department.
Favorite memory or blooper: "When big Zac Sander won December Duals for us this year and everyone freaked out, and Mr. Little's nickname during football."

Max Thompson

Parents: Dean and Sandra Thompson.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Wichita State University for business administration.
Church: Northside Bible Chapel.
School activities: Distributive Education Clubs of American, president of Future Business Leaders of America, TATU, soccer, cadet at Valley Center Police Department.
Favorite memory or blooper: "Filming a ‘Pimp my Ride' spoof of Mr. Flory with Ajay Carpenter."

Braden Tormey

Parents: Rod and Julie Tormey.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Kansas State University or Wichita State University to major in pre-medicine.
Church: First Evangelical Free Church.
School activities: Varsity Club, SADD, Link Crew, Distributive Education Clubs of America.
Favorite memory or blooper: "Coach Gerwick's penguin story."
