Family concert a
benefit for West music

By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: April 24, 2009

A snowstorm delayed original plans, but the show will go on for a rural Sedgwick family of singers and musicians.

The Lay Family, which features the musical talents of eight siblings (ages 3 to 15) and their parents, will have a benefit concert at 7 p.m. April 24 at West Elementary School.

The show is a fundraiser for the music department at West.

“Because we love music,” mother Ronnetta Lay said.

Donations will be accepted at the free concert.

The hour and a half show will feature the Lay children — Brandon, Travis, Joshua, Rachel, Kristina, Anna, Melissa and Laura — and their parents, Mike and Ronnetta.

It also will include a host of West Elementary students who have volunteered to be part of the show.

“We’re going to share the stage,” Ronnetta Lay said. “There will be clogging, juggling and a lot of door prizes.”

The Lay children play several musical instruments.

Anna and Melissa Lay are students at West. Anna is in the second grade, while Melissa is in kindergarten.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Ronnetta Lay said. “I just can’t hardly wait.”
