Bel Aire clears way for spiritual center cabins Taylor Messick
    The council approved the final plat for The Hermitage Addition on the grounds of the Catholic Diocese in Bel Aire. North of the property's spiritual center is a lake with wooded areas. The center is planning to build 10 cabins in those areas.

    The Kechi Arts Council is trying to raise $83,333 this month to secure a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce.

    The council approved the issuance of bonds not to exceed $1.1 million for the project. Then the council selected Duling Construction for the work. Duling came in about $200,000 under the engineer's estimate with a bid of $521,218.

    The City of Park City issued 18 building permits during May 2018 for a total valuation of $222,872. None were for new home construction.

Hornet wrestlers on national stage The News staff
    Juniors Devin Gomez (138 pounds) and Tony Caldwell (285), along with sophomore Marcelo Martinez (138/145), were members of Team Kansas, made up of the top-ranked 15- and 16-year-old high school wrestlers in Kansas. This was the second straight year for these three to compete in the Cadet National Duals.

    Coming off a historic fall as the Hornet marching band established itself as one of the top marching ensembles in the state, the Hornet band program continued the success into the concert season as well.

    The camper was last seen May 17. However, the camper's owners said they were told someone broke through the fence at the facility June 9 or 10 and took the camper.

    City Administrator Scott Hildebrand told the city council on June 19 he has received some interest from private businesses looking to purchase the building. However, he wanted some direction from the council about how to move forward.
