    At its May 8 meeting, the Park City council unanimously voted to name the streets inside of the city's Hap McLean Park. The move was requested by Westar Energy.

Alumni Banquet reservation deadline nears Ron Black
    The Valley Center High School Alumni Banquet is only three weeks away (Saturday, June 2) but the reservations need to be to Dean Frankenbery in two weeks! That's so we have enough great vittles on hand for everybody to get a plate.

Boys sixth, girls seventh at Derby Taylor Messick
    The top performer for the Hornets was Zach Williams. Williams took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.45 seconds, which was a school record. Williams also took first place in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 3 inches.
Golfer earns second-team all-league Taylor Messick
    The Valley Center High School golf team competed in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II tournament at Auburn Hills May 7. The Hornets finished in sixth place as a team with a combined score of 379.

    On May 6, two  area students received the Citation Award from the Northside Bible Chapel Awana program in Kechi. The Citation Award is given to students who have completed all of the materials that are required in the Awana program, which is based in Streamwood, Ill.

Driver hurt in U-turn wreck Chris Strunk
    Valley Center police said a 2015 Dodge van, driven by Amanda Mancillas, 31, of Hutchinson, was traveling north on Meridian and attempted to make a U-turn from the right lane into the southbound lanes.
Murder trials delayed again Taylor Messick
    The trials for a husband and wife charged with torturing and murdering Scottie W. Goodpaster Jr. at a Valley Center home on Nov. 6, 2016, has been continued again. It was delayed until at least September.
Ranzau calls for resignation Chris Strunk
    Richard Ranzau, who represents Valley Center and lives in the school district, said O'Donnell should resign from the board.

    The board is slated to hear reports on the budget, bond issue pre-payment, curriculum resources planning, outside visitation team and summer projects.
