Bel Aire to improve 53rd Street Taylor Messick First, the council unanimously approved a bid of $29,500 from PP&J for the patching of several spots along 53rd North between Woodlawn and Oliver. That project is expected to take between two and three weeks; it should be finished by the end of the year and the city hopes those improvements will last 10 to 15 years.

Kechi purchases patrol car camera Taylor Messick The department has one Watch-Guard camera inside its 2014 patrol car. The cameras activate inside the cars automatically when the emergency lights are turned on. Kechi had another camera until last year, when it quit working due to its age.

Hornets finish last at league cross country Taylor Messick On Oct. 14, Valley Center High School visited Hutchinson's Prairie Ridge Park for the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II cross country meet and the Hornets were met with some tough competition.

Hornets split tri to end regular season Randy Fisher The Hornets lost 25-13, 25-22 to Goddard, ranked eighth in Class 5A, and ended Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II play at 6-6. In the second match, they bounced back to defeat Pratt 25-13, 25-22. Valley Center will take an 18-18 record into the Oct. 21 substate volleyball tournament at home.

Students initiate Hornet Cupboard Emmie Boese The National Honor Society at Valley Center High School has started a food pantry called the Hornet Cupboard. This food pantry is designed for Valley Center High School students and their families in need. In the future, the pantry may be open for the whole district.
