Are we ready to be first responders? I'm sitting at my desk on 9/11. Out the window I can see the flag on Main Street flying at half-staff in honor of those who died 16 years ago — the innocents and the first responders. I can't help but ask myself who are the first responders?

Park City approves more spending for police Taylor Messick The first was a radio amplifier from FirstWireless Inc. at a cost of $14,439.10. The administrative center was constructed using heavy steel beams that adversely affect the functionality of the police department's radios while they are inside the building. This radio amplifier will boost their signals inside the building enough to make sure officers aren't missing information. The motion passed with an 8-0 vote.

Valley Center man wins big Lottery prize The News staff Every Friday, Chris Truman of Valley Center stops at Kwik Shop to buy a Kansas Lottery $2 Double Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket. Last week, he stepped away from his routine and bought a ticket on a Thursday. The decision paid off. He won a $20,000 top prize.
