Bel Aire police hurt in two-vehicle crash The News staff Two Bel Aire police officers were hospitalized Aug. 1 after a vehicle struck their patrol car at 53rd North and Rock Road.

Bel Aire seeks to help growing business Taylor Messick The company is seeking $10 million in industrial revenue bonds. A 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement has also been proposed. Epic Sports was located in Wichita at an old Coke bottling plant but recently outgrew that space. The new facility in Bel Aire will be about 150,000 square feet and the expectation is that it will continue to grow.

KDOT begins road testing The News staff The Kansas Department of Transportation began pavement testing this week on five highways in Butler, Reno and Sedgwick counties. In north Sedgwick County, testing will take place on K-254 from the I-135 junction east to the Sedgwick-Butler County line.

Kechi approves agreement for master drainage plan Taylor Messick On July 27, the Kechi City Council unanimously approved a service agreement for a master drainage plan with PEC at a cost of $30,000.

Clean up street clutter The Valley Center City Council needs to pass an ordinance that requires the Wichita Eagle couriers who deliver “Neighbors" on Tuesdays to return on Thursdays and retrieve all the unwanted copies lying in driveways, lawns and run over in the streets. It doesn't take much of a drive through town to see hundreds of papers creating an eyesore for our community, up to a half dozen issues in some lawns.

Mud Daubers end season at World Series Randy Fisher The inaugural season for the Valley Center Mud Daubers ended July 26 in the NBC World Series. They lost 10-2 in seven innings to the Austin (Texas) Shockers. Valley went 0-3 in the World Series and was 22-16 on the year.

Hornets look forward to spring after playing in NBC Randy Fisher That's how Colten Richardson and Kadin Pearson described playing in Week 1 of the NBC World Series, July 22 through 28, at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Both played for 316 Elite, a high school summer team that went 1-2 in pool play.
