There were more than 35 schools competing at the meet and the competition was fierce. To make things even more difficult, the Hornets were without some of their top runners due to obligations to perform in the marching band during the Fall Festival Parade.

The varsity Hornets also finished third in team scores Sept. 27 at Kingman. Buhler's 46 points was easily the class of the field, followed by Wellington 26, Valley Center 24, Kingman 13, Nickerson 9 and Haven 7.

The Valley Center High School soccer team played its first Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II game of the season Sept. 27 and came away with a victory. Valley improved to 4-4-1 with the win.

Jensen, who found the medallion at the base of a pine tree in the Emporia median near Fourth Street, won the Fall Festival medallion hunt more than 11 years ago. She also won it last year.
