Bel Aire to refund utility overcharges to nine businesses Taylor Messick Last April, citizens and business owners became concerned when news of the overcharges broke. Some seemed to have little faith that their city council would make the situation right and believed that a substantial amount of their utility bill money had gone down the drain. However, Mayor David Austin has acted as swiftly as possible to clear up the issue.

Wrong spin on McGinn’s tax-lid vote A flier sent to Valley Center residents last week claims that McGinn, who is in a primary election battle with fellow Republican Renee Erickson, voted “against giving you a say in whether your property taxes go up," referring to the so-called tax lid law that legislators unwisely approved this year.

Letters to the Editor |
Erickson a friend of education It is that time again, when our mailboxes are filled with campaign materials. I was rather concerned by a recent McGinn mailer that I know firsthand isn't true. The mailer stated that Renee Erickson voted against money for schools. This is such a distortion of the truth that I am compelled to speak out. As a retired teacher with over 30 year of experience and a former colleague of Renee's, I believe I am well qualified to set the record straight. Renee is an advocate of schools. She believes tax money should get to the classroom; in other words, to the teachers to better improve the quality of education for students.

Moore caring, competent Kansas is struggling with severe economic difficulties that have led to a deterioration in our educational and health care systems, and a shifting of taxes to the middle class and poor, as well as continuing to under fund our pension system.
|
Moore deserves endorsement With a sense of greatest respect and confidence, I would like to endorse Dr. J.C. Moore to represent the people of District 91 as a Republican candidate. I have known Dr. Moore for over three decades as a close friend and colleague at Newman University.
|
Supporting Erickson My husband and I have been educators in Kansas for years so we are definitely concerned about the state of education in Kansas. I trust Renee to make choices that are good for Kansas education. She loves students and teachers and wants to see them succeed and will work to help that happen.
