    Eugene “Gene" Thom, 81, of El Dorado, died March 9, 2016.

    Geraldine Powell, 90, of Flower Mound, Texas, died March 6, 2016. A longtime Valley Center resident, she was a former supervisor at New Horizons. She was born April 13, 1925, in Gassville, Ark., to Jess and Nellie Crownover.

    Richard “Dick" Allen Dunn, 64, retired Valley Center City Superintendent, died March 14, 2016.

    Roberta “Bobbie" J. Valent, 75, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died March 3, 2016.
THOMAS TURNER
    Thomas Wayne Turner, 60, of Valley Center, died March 10, 2016. He was a retired systems analyst with the Wichita Eagle and MetLife.

    An anonymous editorial in The Ark Valley News included a significant amount of misinformation (“Taxes, bond issue," March 10, 2016), we thought we'd take a few moments re-write the editorial using facts versus this anonymous person's inaccurate version of the district's spending.
Why not a fall ballot?
    If USD 262 is really hurting for money, why are they spending $10,000 on a special election when they could put it on the ballot this fall for free?

    Although Valley Center High School just completed its winter sports seasons less than two weeks ago, teams have been gearing up for spring sports since the first part of March. Spring sports always sneaks up on people, and this year is no exception as the season gets underway next week.
