Hornets bounce back in Concordia Taylor Messick The Valley Center High School wrestling team improved its dual record to 25-5 after this week's latest round of matches. The Hornets had a busy and successful weekend, competing in tournaments in Concordia and Fredonia.

VCMS girls go 2-6 to close out regular season The News staff The Valley Center Middle School girls basketball teams wrapped up their regular season on the road. The Hornets split Feb. 1 at Derby, with both “A" teams victorious. They lost all four games at McPherson Jan. 28.

Family to open Tex-Mex restaurant in Valley Center Chris Strunk At 11 a.m. Feb. 5, Juan “Jerry" Lopez and his wife Sandra Lopez, and Jerry's mother Maria Gonzalez and her friend Victor Flores will open Jerry's Tex-Mex Grill at Fifth and Meridian, fulfilling a longtime dream and capping several months of planning and work.

Four wrecks on same stretch of Ridge Chris Strunk and David Dinell Four separate wrecks in three days in the same stretch of North Ridge Road last week sent three people to the hospital, but no one was critically injured — except the dog, which was killed.

Shooting from Jeep reported The News staff Police said an area resident reported hearing a gunshot and seeing a red Jeep Grand Cherokee drive by. The resident followed the vehicle and took a photograph of the tag and the vehicle's occupants. Police said ammunition was visible in one photo.

Woman dies in crash on K-254 David Dinell Brenda T. Petrey, 63, of Kechi, who was driving a 1997 GMC pickup, was killed at 8:12 a.m. Jan 27 as she attempted to drive north across the highway and was hit by an eastbound vehicle.
