Kechi considers ban on asphalt plants David Dinell After a community uproar last week in opposition to an asphalt plant being built near Kechi, the city council is considering banning them within the city limits.

Kechi gets new city council member David Dinell Betty Washington has joined the five-member Kechi City Council. She replaces Deb Jacobs, who recently resigned for personal reasons. Washington was appointed by Mayor Ed Parker, who said he believes she will serve the community with dignity.

Hornets open Jam against No. 2 seed Randy Fisher This week, Valley Center High School will host its annual January Jam basketball tournament. The three-day event runs Jan. 21 through Jan. 23 and features three ranked teams. Wichita Southeast is No. 7 in Class 6A, while Topeka Seaman is eighth and Maize South 10th in Class 5A.

This free event features hands-on activities for kids in grades kindergarten through eighth to learn how engineering relates to the everyday world.
