    C.W. “Corky" Armstrong, 87, of Valley Center, died Jan. 9, 2016. He was a retired Boeing Aircraft engineer.

    Cynthia Janelle (Cromer) Strodtman,�54, Valley Center, died Jan. 7, 2016. She was a teaching specialist at Jackson Elementary School in Wichita.
DIXIE HELT
    Dixie Mae (Magee) Helt, 68, of Wichita, died Jan. 4, 2016. She had worked as an advertising specialist for Walmart.
FRANCES MCVAY
    Frances Carol (Levings) McVay 79, of Wichita, died Jan. 7, 2016. She was a retired librarian with the Wichita Public Library.  
KAREN GIBSON-SOTO
    Karen Beth Gibson-Soto, 76, of Wichita, died Jan. 5, 2016. She had been an accounts payable clerk for Ryder Leasing.
NORMA BALLARD
    Norma Jean Gates Ballard, 86, of Claremore, Okla., died Jan. 7, 2016. She formerly lived in Kiowa and Topeka.
ROBERT VOEGELI
    Robert Joseph Voegeli, 69, of Valley Center, died Jan. 11, 2016. He was an oilfield supervisor and over-the-road truck driver.

    Three juveniles were arrested and taken into custody by Park City police Jan. 3 on a burglary and further attempted burglaries at 4616 N. Hydraulic, the Country Park Residences apartment complex.

    Hornets raise record to 6-3 (3-2) with wins
Wrestlers impressive at Andover, Derby Taylor Messick
    In what many in the wrestling community would consider an upset, the Hornets defeated Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II foe Andover Jan. 7. The Trojans were ranked in the Top 10 in Class 5A, but the Hornets powered through them in Andover, winning 42-28. Coach Brian Shelton was satisfied with his team's performance.

    The City of Valley Center issued five building and roofing permits during December for a total valuation of $48,250.
