Bel Aire budget has no tax increase Randy Fisher For the second year in a row, the proposed 2015 Bel Aire city budget contains no mill increase, Mayor David Austin said July 15. He also said the council turned down any raises for themselves in 2015, and the proposed budget will restore two full-time police officer positions.

Valley Center Diamond Dawgs earn berth in NBC World Series Randy Fisher The Dawgs, who no longer play in Valley Center, advanced by first winning the South Division of the Walter Johnson League. They then bested the Park City Rangers, the top team in the North Division, three games to one in a best-of-five series to capture the 2014 Walter Johnson League championship. With the title, Valley Center earned a berth in the second week — Championship Week — of the 80th NBC World Series in Wichita.

Big Larry’s expanding dining room Chris Strunk The restaurant is converting 300 square feet of an adjacent storefront to expand its seating area from 30 to 64 seats. Larry Hall said they plan to knock a wall down separating the two spaces and finish up the work while the restaurant is closed July 24 through 29, reopening on July 30 with extended hours.

District budget calls for decrease in property tax Chris Strunk For the first time since 2006, the district is looking at a mill levy decrease to support its 2014-15 budget, thanks to an increase in state aid for capital improvement projects and a small jump in overall property values.
