Cities are right to seek delay on gun law We honor the second amendment and don't have a problem with responsible gun owners practicing their right to carry concealed firearms. But we think area cities made the right move in seeking an exemption from House Bill 2052, a new state law that essentially says that anyone with a concealed carry license can legally have a weapon in their possession in any public building that doesn't have security that the state deems as adequate.

Winkley graduates from Academy The News staff Micah Winkley graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy on May 29 and is a second lieutenant. Winkley, a 2009 Valley Center High School graduate, earned a bachelor of science degree in foreign area studies with an emphasis in the Middle East.

Chisholm Trail Charge returns to Park City Matt Heilman The second annual Chisholm Trail Charge is set for July 27 in Park City. The race that last year drew some of the top distance runners in the Wichita area and beyond, has $4,000 in available prize money.

Roadwork prepares for commercial growth in Park City Matt Heilman The work has begun. The first stage in an extensive, long-term construction project began with preliminary work paving the way for widening 53rd Street at the entrance to the 80-acre Echo Hills property just west of 53rd North and I-135. That's why cones were lined up outside the former golf course property recently.

Woman killed in cycle wreck Matt Heilman A Park City woman was killed in a June 27 afternoon wreck in the 1600 block of East 45th North near Park City. Dawn Pruitt, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said Pruitt was riding a motorcycle south on Hydraulic when she collided with an eastbound semi truck that ran the stop sign at 45th and Hydraulic. The wreck was reported shortly before 3 p.m.

Cheer coach sentencing delayed further Matt Heilman More than two months after being found guilty on 10 of 11 charges of sex crimes involving underage girls, a former Valley Center High School cheerleading coach is still awaiting his sentencing.
