Court appearance postponed for suspect in accidental death case Matt Heilman The next court appearance of a 24-year-old man charged in the death of a Kechi doctor has been continued from April 30 until May 14. Cody Allen Fields made his first court appearance April 16 in the Sedgwick County District Courtroom of Judge Warren Wilbert.

Kechi clears way for business Matt Heilman A Wichita-based traffic control company with plans to build an office and warehouse facility on Kechi property has the green light to move forward. At its April 25 meeting, the Kechi City Council approved a request to vacate drainage and utility easements on five lots of Northpoint Centre at the northwest corner of K-254 and Rock Road.

Employees cited for smoking weed The News staff Two liquor store employees in Park City were cited after allegedly smoking marijuana during business hours. Shortly before 4:30 p.m. April 27, Park City police responded to a call from a citizen that employees were smoking marijuana inside Simon Liquor a 1704 E. 61st North.

High school Madrigals do well The News staff The Valley Center High School Madrigals finished a perfect competition season this year with a near perfect score of 77 out of 80 at regional competition, receiving a 1 rating. The group also received a 1 rating at the state contest April 27 in Emporia.

Hornet golfers try to establish consistency Matt Heilman Valley Center High School golfers have shown flashes of being a team worthy of qualifying for the state tournament and doing well once they get there. However, Valley has struggled to find consistency in recent tournaments.

Hornet tennis ties for fifth at league Matt Heilman The Valley Center High School tennis was challenged in the conclusion to its regular season and now looks ahead to the postseason. The Hornets followed an April 25 quad tournament at Goddard with the April 29 Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II Tournament at Maize South.
