Park City council receives financial update through 2012 Matt Heilman The City of Park City isn't prospering, but overall, the city is on stable ground financially. At the Park City council's Feb. 12 meeting, finance director Dennis Nichols gave a financial report on the state of the city through 2012.

Possible egg vandals cited Matt Heilman On Feb. 9, Park City police caught three teens throwing eggs at moving vehicles as they drove around north Sedgwick County. The juveniles were found to be in possession of eggs they had bought the night before. They were issued citations and released to their parents and guardians.

Hornet lineman signs with Butler Matt Heilman College coaches wanted Zac Sander. The first-team all-league right tackle was the captain of the offense for the Valley Center High School football team and programs at the next level took notice of a skill set that included sound footwork and superior strength.

Hornet senior signs to play for McPherson College Matt Heilman Emily Warner didn't want it to be over. It was Oct. 26 and her final season at Valley Center High School had just ended on the first day of her third state tournament in a loss to Kapuan Mount Carmel. As the team left the court at the Topeka Expocentre and boarded the bus to return home, Warner had time to think.

Hornet wrestlers ready for postseason Matt Heilman On Feb. 16, the Hornets travel to Great Bend to take part in their Class 5A regional assignment. The top four wrestlers in each class at the regional will advance to the Feb. 22 and 23 Class 5A state tournament at Hartman Arena.

Students buckle up with S.A.F.E. campaign Valley Center High School students In recent years, 52 percent of people involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents were not buckled up. Seatbelts save lives, and this is why Valley Center High school has joined the program S.A.F.E. (Seatbelts Are For Everyone).

Sunrise standout to throw for Hutch Matt Heilman Sunrise Christian Academy senior quarterback Zach Howell is state record holder who has flown under the radar. Sunrise isn't part of the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The small private school in Bel Aire doesn't compete in a league or challenge for state championships.

VCMS wrestlers win duals over Haysville West, El Dorado The News staff The Valley Center Middle School wrestling team moved its overall dual record to 6-0 with a pair of Feb. 7 wins against Haysville West and El Dorado at El Dorado. The Hornets won 17 of 18 matches against Haysville West to take the first dual 95-3. Colten Richardson at 80 pounds, Mike Turkali at 90, Mason Beaulieu at 95, Tyler Boone at 105, Sam Weldon at 115, Payton Stoffel at 120, Don Boone at 134, Gavin McDonald at 141, Kaleb Clubb at 155, Malachi Swigart at 180 and Chase Holle at 215 pounds won by pins. Dallas Boone at 85 pounds, Isaac Swigart at 100, Collin Sharp at 110 and Kaden Lewis at 127 pounds won by decision. Isaac Black at 148, Tony Adams at 165 and Hagan Henderson at 265 won by forfeit in open weights.
