Bel Aire OKs work on residential development Matt Heilman In a city that has fought an uphill battle trying to develop its vacant property, the Rock Springs addition offers some welcome relief. The City of Bel Aire does not own the land and isn't the developer. Rock Springs, located near 53rd North and Rock Road, is being developed by Wichita developer Gene Vitarelli.

Water park and resort part of proposed Bel Aire development Matt Heilman The ideas for Bel Aire's proposed downtown retail and entertainment destination are starting to come into focus. Last week, Wisconsin Resort Consulting announced plans to build a water park and mixed-use destination resort and hotel on 27 acres in the Caban Marketplace STAR Bond development. The concept for the development was first discussed about five years ago.

Ice causes problems during commute Matt Heilman At 6:24 a.m., a GMC SUV, driven by Venessa Kay Moyer of Valley Center, was southbound on I-135 when Moyer lost control of the vehicle. The SUV hit a guardrail, entered the west ditch, drove through a fence and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its wheels. Moyer was transported to a Wichita hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cheerleaders say thanks for supporting trip of a lifetime The News staff Callie Claussen and Sierra Archer, senior cheerleaders at Valley Center High School, traveled to London, England, Dec. 26 through Jan. 2. The pair was selected last summer at UCA Cheer Camp as All-American Cheerleaders, which allowed them to take part in the New Year's Day parade in London. The girls spent many hours asking for donations and selling different products to raise enough money to fund their trip.

Middle school wrestlers sweep Prairie Hills, Newton The News staff The Valley Center Middle School wrestling team continued its impressive start to the season with strong showings in a pair of home duals Jan. 29 against Prairie Hills and Newton. Against Prairie Hills, the Hornets won 14 of 18 matches on the way to the 85-16 win. Colten Richardson at 80 pounds, Dallas Boone at 85 pounds, Mike Turkali at 90, Mason Beaulieu at 95, Tyler Boone at 105, Collin Sharp at 110, Sam Weldon at 115, Payton Stoffel at 120, Kaden Lewis at 127, Don Boone at 134, Kaleb Clubb at 148, Malichi Swigart at 165, Chase Holle at 215 and Hagen Henderson at 265, all won by pin.
