Company nearly ready to begin operation in Sunflower Matt Heilman
The first tenant in Bel Aire's Sunflower Commerce Park is on target to start business on the 800-acre industrial park land by the end of the month. Century Manufacturing sales manager Doug Newby said the company, which manufactures acrylic and transparent promotional materials and awards, is planning to start operating in its new 36,000-square-foot facility on Jan. 14, but there have been a couple of construction setbacks that could postpone the target date a week or two.

Valley Center insurance rating improves Chris Strunk
In a report issued in November, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) gave Valley Center a rating of 4, an upgrade from 6 the city had since 1981. ISO ratings stretch from 1 (the highest) to 10, based on equipment and personnel levels. Valley Center's improvement was the result of upgrades in equipment — including the acquisition of a second engine — and an increase in staffing.
