On May 12, the Valley Center High School track team competed in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II meet at Maize South. The boys won the meet for the second straight year and the girls placed fourth.
| || Valley tennis brings home state medals|
Hayden Brauer and Colby Swift in doubles and Garrett Rogers in singles brought home medals from last weekend's Class 5A state tennis tournament in Topeka. Brauer and Swift placed eighth, while Rogers was ninth. Last year, Brauer and Swift were 12th, while Rogers was 1-2 and out of the medals. Valley Center has not had two boys state placers in the same year since 2009.

The Hornets finished fourth as a team with 348 points and just missed a team bid to state. Salina Central, Salina South and Maize all finished ahead of the Hornets with 339 points each and had to break the tie by scoring the teams' fifth golfers.

The win puts Valley Center into the Class 5A state tournament, May 25 and 26, for the third straight year. The 19-3 Hornets should be seeded no worse than fourth at Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita. Pairings will be announced later this week.

No matter what happens from here, Taylor Latimer will leave Valley Center High School this month as one of the most decorated track and field athletes in the school's history.
| Wedekind claims Big 12 title|
Morgan Wedekind of Valley Center claimed a Big 12 title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the conference championships May 12 through 14 in Lawrence.
