Sarah Kromer is co-owner of Scooter's Coffee drive-through in Valley Center with her husband Ryan. They plan to open the business July 26. Scooter’s Coffee kiosk opening in Valley Center By Chris Strunk Last Updated: July 22, 2021 Scooter's Coffee is opening in Valley Center. The drive-through franchise, owned by Ryan and Sarah Kromer of Wichita, announced it would open July 26 at 126 E. Fifth. Sarah Kromer, who quit her teaching job at Maize Middle School, will manage the day-to-day operations. "It's a blast," Kromer said. "I love teaching, but you have your highs and lows. … Here, you walk in and it's instant smiles. Who doesn't smile when they get the coffee they wanted?" Or the shake, smoothie, tea or even breakfast sandwich? Kromer said her husband's sister and brother-in-law own six Scooter's locations in Kansas, including Garden City and Augusta. That's how the Kromers got interested. "We just jumped on board," Kromer said. The Kromers picked Valley Center for their first location because they are from small towns and they enjoy the atmosphere. They bought the property next to Kwik Shop, razed the former accounting office building and had the Scooter's kiosk built. Kromer said she knows there are other coffee and drink options in Valley Center, and she doesn't want any of them to lose business when Scooter's opens. "I know it's hard being a franchise coming into a small community, but we're still a small family owned business," she said. "…The best thing about coffee shops is educating anybody on coffee is going to help us all be successful. … Anybody who learns more about coffee and expands their horizons is helpful to all people. We want everybody to be successful." Scooter's employs 17 people. Most are from Valley Center. Most are part-time positions. The shop will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. |
