Builders First Choice will open at 801 S. Meridian in early 2022.

Plans made for former grocery store

The former Leeker's grocery store at 801 S. Meridian in Valley Center will be getting a new life.

Builders First Choice, which has a nearby truss manufacturing facility, plans to open a lumberyard by early 2022, the company said.

Builders, which has locations nationwide, bought the building this year. In 2019, the company bought 10 acres behind the Leeker's building to expand its truss plant.

The company said it will merge its smaller lumberyard on West Macarthur in Wichita with the Valley Center store. It will be open to the general public.

Leeker's Family Foods closed its Valley Center location in April 2018. It still operates a grocery store in Park City. The building was empty for about a year until a wholesale warehouse began renting the facility in 2019. Valley Center remains without a full-service grocery store.
