What's on your mind Last Updated: October 22, 2020 Unaffordable dream The words "could" and "may" pay for nothing. The proposed rec center facility is another dream that cannot be afforded. It has not been stated but without a doubt the school board has their fingers in this to obtain an indoor pool for the school's use. You can say "it ain't so," but it is so. And what is with the property tax exemptions just given and then ask for a property tax increase? Quit the insane spending and fix the streets and drainage before investing in the unneeded luxuries. Terrible timing So you're thinking this 1 percent sales tax and potential 2 mill increase to fund a new recreation center and put a band-aid on the swimming pool isn't all that big of a deal? Just wait until our school leaders, city leaders and county folks (not to mention the state of Kansas) start trying to play catch-up with our taxes and the lost revenue that has and will continue during this pandemic. Terrible, terrible timing for any type of a tax increase of any kind. Our elected and appointed leaders should be ashamed. Non-essential So our city and rec commission leaders (and potentially school board) want to raise our taxes in the middle of a pandemic? Unemployment has exploded and businesses are hurting so bad that many are being forced to shut down. But you want to raise taxes for non-essential items like these. I'm sorry, folks, but this is asinine. Views from News readers |
