2 of state’s safest cities in the area By The News staff Last Updated: September 26, 2019 North Sedgwick County has two of the safest cities in Kansas, according to a recent survey. Security Baron, a company that reviews and compares security systems, announced last week that Bel Aire was the safest city in the state and Valley Center was sixth, based on FBI statistics. Bel Aire had a safety score of 86.19 with 1.66 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens. The city has a citizen-to-officer ratio of 1.53 per 1,000 people. The analysis found that Valley Center had an average safety score of 81.83 and a rate of 1.48 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens. The city also has a citizen-to-officer ratio of 1.88 per 1,000 people. Additionally, Valley Center had a rate of 14 property crimes per 1,000 citizens. By comparison, Security Baron found that Independence ranked last on the list, with a safety score of 38.79. The city in Montgomery County has a rate of 6.9 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens, along with a citizen-to-officer ratio of 2.07 per 1,000 people. |
