Valley competes in first swimming events

The Valley Center High School boys' swimming team competed in its first-ever invitational Nov. 29 at Newton. The Hornets scored 23 points as a team.

The highest finish of the day was by Dale Hatfield in the 100-yard butterfly. He took ninth place for the Hornets with a time of 1:20.04. Cameron Morand earned a couple of 11th-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Tristan Mollelo finished 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

On Dec. 1, the Hornets competed in the Maize Invitational and again scored 23 team points. Morand was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke and 20th in the 50-yard freestyle. Christian Seligmann was 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Hornets travel to El Dorado on Dec. 7.
