ROBERT WOODEN JR. Last Updated: July 19, 2018 Robert “Bob" Verdell Wooden Jr., 76, of Wellston, Okla., died July 10, 2018. He was a former teacher and coach at Valley Center High School. He was born Jan. 10, 1942, in Chandler, Okla., to Robert Verdell Sr. and Anna Elizabeth (Miller) Wooden. He graduated from Chandler High School in 1960. He played football and baseball at Connors Junior College and baseball at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a teacher and coach for more than 35 years, earning Oklahoma Coach of the Year honors in 1972. He taught and coached at several schools in Oklahoma and at Valley Center High School. After retiring he traveled the country and played competitive senior softball into his early 70s. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons' mother, Ruth Ann Bodenhamer Wooden; and his wife, Myra Barnes Wooden. Survivors include sons Steven Zane Wooden and Robert Jason Wooden, granddaughter Makinley Elizabeth Wooden, brother George Wooden, sister Jewel Carter and other family and friends. A memorial service was held July 13 at the New Zion Cemetery in Chandler. Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston had charge. |
