From the library By Janice Sharp, director Last Updated: July 12, 2018 Teen game party is July 13 Thanks to everyone who attended the grand opening of the library/community center on July 4. We estimated 700 to 800 people came to the dedication ceremonies, had barbeque in the seniors area and then came to the library for cookies and visiting. Library staff is still getting used to our new facility and we're still waiting for more of our shelving to be delivered. We appreciate that our patrons are so patient that all of our materials are not here yet but still in the old building. We go daily to empty the book drop and search for reserved titles. The new book drops should be installed soon to make it easier for patrons. We will have a drop box for media only and another for print materials. The members of our Stitch & Chat group would love to have more people join their group. They meet each Monday at 2 p.m. to visit and share their knit or crochet projects. We have plenty of room now for them to add members. There are no dues and no attendance requirements; just the desire to socialize, laugh and share about their lives. We hear them laughing and having a good time while they're here. The library's new patron cards have two smaller fobs that can be attached to a key ring. If you already have a library card and would like to have new cards, we'll change them during July for free. After July, if you wish to have a new card, the charge will be the $2.50 replacement fee. The Summer Reading programs will be held in the new facility during July. The performer for July 18 will be Spaghetti Eddy, and the performer for July 25 will be Dan, Dan the Magic Man. The summer programs have gone quickly with the progress of the move. The reading logs will be due by 2 p.m. July 28. In order for the kids to get prize bags, the reading logs must be turned in by the deadline. The completion party for the summer programs will be at the swimming pool from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 1. The teens will have a Game Party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 13. We will continue to require an RSVP for teens planning to attend to allow us to have adequate supplies for games and adequate snacks. The last party had seven RSVPs, but we had 23 kids attend. We love having the attendance but our presenters barely had adequate supplies. The teens will have their final teen party for the summer July 27. We will have a hot dog cookout and either laser tag games or water games. The laser tag games are supplied through interlibrary loan, but we haven't been notified if they are available. The adults will have a Christmas in July workshop and will make a leather ornament. The RSVP deadline will be 6 p.m. July 23. We are planning a Mystery Dinner Readers Theatre beginning at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4. RSVPs should be received by 6 p.m. July 30. There will be no charge for the dinner theatre.
