JAMES GROSS

James Evan Gross, 30, of Hermosa Beach, Calif., formerly of Valley Center, died June 7, 2018.

He was born Oct. 3, 1987, in Lebanon, Pa., to Strother and Susan Gross, the oldest of four children. The family moved to Kansas in 2002. He graduated from Goddard High School in 2005. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and graduated cum laude from Wichita State University in 2009 with a degree in mechanical engineering. While attending WSU, he also worked as a research engineer at the National Institute for Aviation Research. He married Megan Cheri Gobel, who he met at WSU, on Aug. 7, 2010, in Valley Center. They moved to southern California in 2011 for him to work for SpaceX as a manufacturing engineering manager.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dr. Ralph James Gross.

Survivors include his wife; his parents, of Temple, Pa.; grandparents Ruth Gross of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Gene (Barbara) Meek of Strasburg, Pa.; brother Andrew (Chelsea) Gross of Kansas City, Kan.; sisters Rebecca Gross of Puyallup, Wash., and Suzanne Gross of Bloomsburg, Pa.; seven nieces and nephews; and many other family members.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 22 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. June 23 at St Francis Episcopal Church, Palos Verdes Estates. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. June 23 at Green Hills Memorial Park.
