Lange repeats as second-team all league By Randy Fisher Last Updated: March 15, 2018 Senior Wyatt Lange led a trio of Valley Center High School boys to berths on the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail II all-league teams. For the second straight year, Lange was named to the second team. A three-year starter for the Hornets, he set a school record with eight 3-pointers en route to a 33-point game Jan. 5 against Goddard in Valley's only league win of the season. He averaged 11.8 ppg and hit 32.7 percent from behind the arc on the season. "He's a three-sport athlete who set an example on how to work hard in all areas — on the court, in the classroom and in the weight room," coach Ty Unrau said. Receiving honorable mention were Trenton Driskill and Joe Petrakis. It was the first such accolade for either. Driskill, a junior, led the Hornets in scoring at 12.7 ppg and was second on the team in rebounding He was named to all-tournament teams at Kingman and at the January Jam. "Trenton was our most consistent scorer this season and especially good from mid-range," Unrau said. "He had huge games early this season." Petrakis averaged 10.9 points per game for his senior campaign. "Joe was our most improved player from his freshman (year) to senior year," Unrau said. "He's a great student and very coachable. His defense was much improved this year, and he became a shot blocker and enforcer in the paint for us this year on both ends." First-team selectees were sophomore Xavier Bell and junior Easton Leedom, both of Andover Central; junior Cevin Clark of Ark City; Eisenhower seniors Dylan Vincent and Jeff Wake; and junior Kael Kordonowy of Maize South. Joining Lange on the second team were Andover's Andrew Gagnon, a junior, and freshman Jack Johnson; junior Braden Belt of Andover Central; senior Jordan Wilson of Ark City; sophomore Jordan Vincent of Eisenhower; and senior Ian McSwain of Goddard. Dylan Vincent was named as the league's MVP. Coach of the year was C.J. Jennings, who led Ark City to second place in the AVCTL with a 9-2 record, one-half game behind Eisenhower. The Bulldogs finished 19-6 overall and took third at the Class 4A-I state tournament. |
