Southeast wins January Jam tournament

Wichita Southeast grabbed a late lead and held on for a 77-76 victory in the Valley Center January Jam basketball tournament Jan. 20.

The Buffaloes got 38 points from Isreal Barnes (31 in the second half) in his best game of the tournament. Trailing 75-71 with 1:45 left in the game, Barnes scored Southeast's final six points. The go-ahead bucket came off a Voshun Webb steal of a Topeka Seaman inbounds pass.

Southeast won the tournament for the second time in three years.

First round

Wichita Southeast 74, KC Turner 71 (OT)

Ulysses 53, Valley Center 51

Maize South 95, Coffeyville 72

Second round Friday

Valley Center 50, KC Turner 47

Coffeyville 89, Garden City 71

Southeast 61, Ulysses 60

Topeka Seaman 63, Maize South 57

Final round Saturday

7th place: KC Turner 63, Garden City 51

5th place: Coffeyville 61, Valley Center 54

3rd place: Maize South 80, Ulysses 56

Championship: Southeast 77, Topeka Seaman 76
