Man killed in trench collapse

A man was killed in a work site accident in Bel Aire Dec. 20.

About 10:30 a.m., Jesse Foster was doing subcontractor work for Wilks Underground Utilities at 53rd North and Industry in Bel Aire's Sunflower Commerce Park.

He was part of a four-man crew that was putting pipe into a trench. Police Chief Darrell Atteberry said Foster was in the trench when 16 to 20 tons of dirt shifted and collapsed on top of him.

The Sedgwick County Fire Technical Rescue team worked for nearly six hours to uncover Foster's body. They used machinery and also dug by hand. A large portion of the trench was filled in during the collapse and crews initially weren't positive of Foster's location. OSHA has been investigating the accident.

Foster has six children. A gofundme.com page has been set up to help with Foster's funeral.
