From the library

No library  programs until the new year

Have you noticed how quickly the holidays are approaching? I had been thinking I have plenty of time to be prepared but I now realize I have to get organized.

This week, we had our board/staff party after our shortened board meeting. It's always enjoyable to bring everyone together, including everyone's family. Everyone contributes food to give us a good variety while we become better acquainted.

The library doesn't have programs for the remainder of this year. Staff continues to review our collection for unused and damaged books that will be saved for the spring book sale. Our goal is to have our collection “lean and mean" to make it easier for our move next summer.

In January, we'll begin our story times again and adult programming. There will be a teen/'tween party Jan. 12, although we don't have details yet. Our adults will have a Shutterfly workshop as well.

Staff enjoys December. We have a slower time, which enables us to catch up on duties behind the scenes.

We read shelves to make sure all areas are in order.

We also are making sure that the Friends donations agree with our records, which they do. We are receiving donation payments that were invoiced. The Friends will still need to solicit donations to cover the cost of the interior furnishings for the library. We appreciate any donations that can be given. All donations are tax deductible.

The last City Council meeting for the year will be Dec. 19. Make a resolution to attend City Council meetings. It provides an opportunity to know what our elected officials are planning for our community. Typically, there are less than 10 people who attend the meetings.

Become knowledgeable about our city. Contact City Hall to place your name on its email list for notification of upcoming meetings.

The library will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 25 for our staff to enjoy the Christmas weekend with their families.

We will also be closed Dec. 30 through Jan. 1 for the New Year's weekend.

Some staff will be traveling but we will be open our regular hours other days.

Upcoming events

Dec. 19 — City Council

Dec. 19 — No story times until Jan. 9

Dec. 23 to Dec. 25 — Library closed

Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 — Library closed
