Valley Center celebs prepare to make pies By Emmie Boese Last Updated: November 16, 2017 Valley Center celebrities are breaking out their cookbooks and dusting off their measuring spoons as they prepare for the Valley Center Community Foundation's inaugural celebrity pie auction. The event is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 28 in the Valley Center High School commons area. Entry is free, but participants are encouraged to bid on their favorite pies. Some of the celebrities making pies will be Mayor Laurie Dove, “Big" Larry Hall from Big Larry's Burgers, school district Superintendent Cory Gibson, Ben “The Food Guy" Anderson and The Ark Valley News matriarch Lisa Strunk. Spike Anderson, vice chairman of the community foundation, said all money raised will go to the foundation's operating fund. The foundation is responsible for making charitable gifts to various organization and causes in the community. Some of the efforts the foundation has supported include the Valley Center Community Center & Library. “I am excited about the event as a whole," Dove said. “The Valley Center Community Foundation does such great work for Valley Center. I am excited there's an event like this that we can all get behind and support, and it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun." Dove described the event as one nobody will want to miss. “It's an evening that anybody from the community should plan to attend," said Dove. “It's going to be a lot of fun. There will be pie samples, and who wouldn't want to attend if there were pie samples? There will be some good-natured competition for a good cause, so it'll be a fun evening out." |
