Marching band 7th at championship By The News staff Last Updated: November 09, 2017 The Valley Center High School Hornet marching band participated in the third annual Kansas Bandmaster's Association Marching Championship Oct. 28 in Topeka. This competition featured 22 from across Kansas, including Dodge City, Garden City, Buhler, Maize South and many of the Blue Valley, Olathe and Shawnee Mission schools from the Kansas City area. The 143 students of the Valley Center Hornet marching band made school history by finishing third in their division, which is based on band size, and seventh overall, which is the highest finish the Hornets have ever had. Not only did Valley Center compete in the largest and toughest division, the students also were exposed to several schools whose marching bands participate in the highly competitive Bands of America circuit, a national organization for our country's top high school marching band programs. “The students had two fantastic performances, both in preliminary and finals competition, and represented themselves, Valley Center High School and the greater community of Valley Center at a very high level," director Amanda Jolly said. “Everyone should be very proud of these students' achievements." |
