Principal Jamie Lewis and student Madison Isham show the pantry. Students initiate Hornet Cupboard By Emmie Boese Last Updated: October 19, 2017 The National Honor Society at Valley Center High School has started a food pantry called the Hornet Cupboard. This food pantry is designed for Valley Center High School students and their families in need. In the future, the pantry may be open for the whole district. “NHS created the Hornet Cupboard because we saw a need for it among the students at the school," VCHS senior and NHS member Madison Isham said. “Students can get meals at the school, but this is a way we can make sure they also get meals at home." The food pantry works by having administrators or counselors in the district access the food pantry. “The pantry will continuously need restocked, so donations will always be accepted," Isham said. “People can donate canned goods, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, cereal granola bars, peanut butter, and other non-perishable food items." “So far, advisory classes last week brought in over 400 items," NHS sponsor Kristen Joyal said. The community can get involved this week. NHS will be collecting food items at the home football game Oct. 20. |
