Forum set for local elections
By The News staff
Last Updated: October 19, 2017

Local elections are right around the corner, and The Ark Valley News is planning a forum to introduce candidates to potential voters.

The forum for candidates in the Valley Center City Council and Valley Center school board races will be 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at City Hall.

Candidates in contested Ward 4 of the city council — Forrest “Bud" Patterson and Paul Davis III — have agreed to participate.

Kelsey Parker and Matt Stamm, who are running write-in campaigns for Ward 3 of the city council, also agreed to participate.

Brendan McGettigan, the lone candidate in Ward 2 of the city council, confirmed his attendance. Ray Strunk, the only candidate in Ward 1, said he is unable to attend because of a previous commitment.

All four candidates for three at-large seats on the Valley Center school board — Richard Harris, Bart Balthazor, Brad Barbour and Jason Reffner — have agreed to participate.

Advance voting at the election office in Wichita will begin Oct. 23. Advance voting at vote centers in the area, including Valley Center Christian Church, will be noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and 3 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 4.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 7.
