Avery Automotive in Valley Center will host an oil change fundraiser for Elliott Ortega and his family Oct. 28.

Ortega is battling cancer, his third go around with the disease.

Ortega, who is 6, was first diagnosed with liver cancer when he was 18 months old. He had a liver transplant and chemotherapy treatment. After being cancer free for a few years, he was diagnosed with a form of leukemia. Ortega had a bone marrow transplant and was cancer free again.

Unfortunately, Ortega recently was diagnosed with another aggressive form of leukemia and has started chemotherapy treatments.

The fundraiser will help the family with travel and medical expenses related to Ortega's treatment.

The fundraiser will be from 9 a.m. until the last car is serviced. All proceeds from oil changes will go to the family.

Raffle items, carnival, face painting and a food truck will be part of the event.

Brendan McGettigan, owner of Avery's Automotive, said appointments are being accepted by calling 755-0309.
