Kechi purchases patrol car camera By Taylor Messick Last Updated: October 19, 2017 The Kechi City Council Oct. 12 approved the purchase of a in-car camera for the police department. The department has one Watch-Guard camera inside its 2014 patrol car. The cameras activate inside the cars automatically when the emergency lights are turned on. Kechi had another camera until last year, when it quit working due to its age. At that point, the department didn't have the funds to replace the camera. They'll now use funds from the 2017 budget to pay a total of $4,950 for a replacement from Digital Ally, which offers a comparable camera for $1,000 less than Watch-Guard. Part of the cost will be covered by the KDOT Click-It-Or-Ticket Campaign. KDOT pays officers in the state overtime to work on their days off about four times per year for various campaigns. The latest campaign had officers out writing seatbelt tickets. Departments get money for the tickets they write and $1,723 will be used towards Kechi's in-car police camera. In other business, the council approved a job step level increase for Officer Russell Cook with a unanimous vote. All members of the council were present. There was a 30-minute executive session and no binding action was taken. |
