Local group recognizes area students for good penmanship

The Little Arkansas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution had more than 120 entries for its penmanship contest of cursive writing of the Preamble to the Constitution in honor of Constitution Week.

The competition had three top finishers and numerous monorable mentions.

First place went to Alissa Ragland of Maize Elementary. Second went to Keira Riley of Maize Elementary. Third place went to Connor Sternberger of Maize Vermillion Elementary.

Honorable mentions went to Kaylie Kinniburgh, Melina Ducommun, Lauren Jones and Meredith Gibbons of Valley Center Intermediate School; Madison Fluis and Ella Wakefiled of Vermillion Elementary; and Tanner Martinez, Arwyn Hennessy, Jack Bowen, Julian Gonzales and Julia Vargas of Maize Elementary.

The honorable mention winners received an award certificate and small treat. The top three winners were presented gift cards and award certificates.
