Breezy’s benefit: Summer treats and Santa Claus

Last Updated: July 20, 2017

Santa Claus is coming to town.

As part of a Christmas in July fundraiser for the Salvation Army, Breezy's Snow Shack will host Santa Claus, put on Christmas-themed games and have inflatables and other activities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 22 in the 300 block of South Meridian. Santa's visit will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

Ben Scriven, who owns Breezy's, is a member of the Salvation Army advisory board.

Scriven said most people only think of the Salvation Army during Christmas, but the organization is active all year, providing emergency disaster relief, social services and support services for veterans and the homeless.

"The Salvation Army raised less money last year at Christmas than any of the previous four years," said Major Joseph Wheeler, Salvation Army's Wichita city commander. "Many do not understand that the familiar red kettle campaign brings in financial support for programs that run year-round. Needs are growing faster than financial resources, so any time a company or family business like Breezy's designates the Salvation Army a portion of their income, it is extremely helpful to assure services can continue 365 days a year. We are grateful for the generosity of our local community."

Scriven said Breezy's is hoping for a large turnout so it can make a sizable contribution to the Salvation Army.
