KATHRYN SCHROEDER Last Updated: March 23, 2017 Kathryn M. (Wilson) Schroeder, 94, of Valley Center, died March 20, 2017. She was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Stillwater, Okla., to Carl and Gerda Wilson. She married Arlo Schroeder in 1947. She joined the military during World War II and became the first woman Marine from the state of Kansas. She served as a Link trainer at military bases in North Carolina and Florida. After the war she worked briefly at the Harvey County News in Newton before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was active in several organizations, including PTA and the Experimental Aviation Association, and spent many years as a member of the Valley Center Planning Commission. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Carl and Alan Wilson, and daughter Jan Schroeder. Survivors include sons Alan Schroeder of Cambridge, Mass., and Ronald Schroeder of Bloomington, Minn.; sisters, Marilyn George of Valley Center, and Janice Baker of Wichita; daughter-in-law Cindy Schroeder of Bloomington, Minn.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. March 23 at Zion Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established at Zion Lutheran in Newton. Petersen Family Funeral Home of Newton has charge. |
