Police break up large teen beer party By Chris Strunk Last Updated: February 25, 2016 Valley Center police put the brakes on a large teenage party in the Valley Meadows neighborhood late Feb. 19, but not before several teens ran away. Authorities said they found alcohol in the home and smelled marijuana, but no arrests were made and no citations were issued. The investigation, however, is ongoing, Chief Mark Hephner said. Police said about 50 teenagers were at the party; about 20 ran away from the house when police arrived. Police were called to the residence at 301 W. Goff about 11:40 p.m. by a resident concerned about the number of vehicles parked at the home. The curb was lined with cars on both sides of the street. Police knocked on the door, and an 18-year-old answered. The teen tried to shut the door on officers. The owner of the home was not at the party. Police said they found bottles of alcohol in the home, a beer pong game set up in the basement and the odor of burned marijuana coming from the garage. Besides a few 18-year-olds, no other adults were there, police said. Most were high-school age. Police said about 30 people remained at the party. Police talked to them in the backyard of the residence. "We've taken down everybody's information that were there," Sgt. Thomas Delgado said. "… We're definitely going to follow up." Police had each juvenile call his or her parents for a ride home from the party. Delgado said officers spoke to the parents when they arrived. Delgado said the juveniles who didn't run from the house cooperated with officers. "The ones I dealt with, none had consumed any alcohol," he said. "We believe the ones who were drinking all took off (when officers arrived). … All I saw were heads and bodies flopping over the fence. I'm not going to have our guys chasing them over the fence and possibly get hurt." Hephner said the 18-year-old who appeared to be hosting the party could face criminal charges. The homeowner was out of town and was unaware of the party, Hephner said. |
