Police follow leads in attempted abduction By Chris Strunk Last Updated: September 25, 2014 Valley Center police continued this week following leads in a possible child abduction attempt that occurred last week in the city. Chief Mark Hephner said police have received several tips from residents who said they saw what may have been the suspect's vehicle. It was described as a white, four-door car with peeling paint on the driver's door. Police said a student was riding her bike home from school on Sept. 15 when the white vehicle approached her on West Fifth Street near the railroad tracks. Late last week, Valley Center police learned of a similar report in Halstead, which is northwest of Valley Center in Harvey County. A Valley Center detective gathered information about the Halstead case. Hephner said the departments are sharing information. However, it's unclear whether the report in Halstead was connected to the one in Valley Center. "It sounds like the same, but we're not really sure," he said. Since the original report, police have received at least four tips about a vehicle that matched the description in Valley Center. Hephner said the vehicle is small and shaped like a Dodge Neon. "Anybody who sees any vehicle that matches the description, we'd like that information so we can check it out," Hephner said. |
