Fall Festival medallion hunt underway
By The News staff
Last Updated: September 18, 2014

Festival set for Sept. 19 and 20

Medallion sleuths, are you ready?

The Fall Festival Medallion Hunt starts Sept. 11, paving the way for the annual community celebration Sept. 19 and 20.

The medallion has been hidden on public property within the city limits of Valley Center. The person who finds the medallion and has a hunting license (details inside this week's News) can win $500.

Remember, there is no need to dig in dirt or remove objects in finding this year's medallion. Happy hunting.

Fall Festival wristbands are for sale ($4 each) at area merchants.

Meanwhile, the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce has announced this year's Fall Festival honorees. Pat Postlethwait is grand marshal of the Fall Festival parade. Ed Heck was named Citizen of the Year. Audrey Ricks, a senior at Valley Center High School, was named Junior Citizen of the Year.

Fall Festival events will begin at 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in downtown. Food vendors, the beer garden and craft booths will open at 5 p.m. Ottaway Amusement's Ride-A-Rama will be from 6 to 11 p.m.

The Tom Strathman Band will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. on the Main Street stage.

The crowd-pleasing parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 20. It will travel on Meridian from the intermediate school south to Clay Street. Lineup starts at 8:30 a.m. at the intermediate school.

Also on Sept. 20, food vendors and craft booths will open at 10 a.m. The daytime Ride-A-Rama will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other activities include the annual Washer Tournament in Lions Park, frog and turtle races, fishing derby in McLaughlin Park and performances by the Junior Hornet cheerleaders, the high school jazz band and the Midian Shrine Hillbilly Band. The Kids Festival in Lions Park will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

The evening Ride-A-Rama will begin at 5 p.m. The Agenda will perform on the Main Street stage at 7 p.m.
